How long have you been running your business?
I have been operating Malmaison for the past eight years. Malmaison was a combination of my many passions, France, French History, Botanical beauty and gorgeous French style for our home and family.


What were you doing prior to your current venture?
My background is as a Human Resource professional mainly in people management, change management and training roles. Prior to opening Malmaison I worked in the Human Resources field as a consultant.


If you had to choose a favourite product from your range, what would it be and why?
My favourite product from our range would have to be the Limoge porcelain, in particular the sweet baby teapots. We are so rushed in our busy lives, there is something so special about giving ourselves time to enjoy a relaxing cuppa from the most beautiful teaware in the world. So elegant!


My favourite Alimrose product is Mia le Lapin, as I love tucking my little girl Mietta in and checking on her before I head to bed and watching her all cuddled up with her very own Mia le Lapin. Makes my heart melt every time I look at the two of them together!


What do you do to relax?
At the moment I relax by exercising. Sounds weird, but It allows me some me time to myself to think (or not), and just be outdoors in the fresh air, clear my head and feel energised and calmer, ready to get back into life with a busy family.


If you were able to go wherever you wanted to this weekend, where would it be?
Paris of course! My favourite city in the world … although I would also love to be at a cooking school somewhere in regional France probably Burgundy, learning to cook some new delicious recipes from produce purchased from the local farmer’s markets.


What was the last thing that you purchased?
A cocktail dress to wear to my sister’s 40th birthday party. A very special treat!


Who lives at your place?
My husband Brad (also my business partner) and our three beautiful children, Benjamin 13, Harrison 9 & Mietta 5. Our gorgeous dog Milo (chocolate Labrador), 2 cats (Roger & Ruby), a Gold Fish and three chickens Josephine, Henny Penny & Speckled.

Wrapping Baby

Some believe that wrapping a newborn is beneficial as it resembles the way that they were in the womb, all snuggly and providing that sense of security :) It can also help them settle as it prevents the startle reflex. Meet Julia from Chocolate Freckles

We thought it might be fun to meet some of our lovely retailers. Today we were chatting with Julia whose store Chocolate Freckles can be found in Essenden, Victoria. Julia's store has only been operating for less than two years but already she has gained herself a fabulous reputation in the industry. Her store looks deliciously sweet!!

Last month Julia was featured on www.babyology.com.au and she has been nominated for the 2011 AusMumpreneur awards. Here she answers some of our questions.

How long have you been running your business?

The business will be 2 years old in October 2011.

What were you doing prior to your current venture?

Working in the Recruitment industry as a Branch Manager

If you had to choose a favourite product from your range, what would it be and why?

So many gorgeous things in the store! But I truly have to say that I think the Alimrose hand squeakers are the cutest and best selling item at Chocolate Freckles

What do you do to relax?

Have a nice glass of red! Watch a good movie, Social network, read a book, go for a walk....Lots of things I love to do!

If you were able to go wherever you wanted to this weekend, where would it be?

New York or Paris!

What was the last thing that you purchased?

Personally ; Zoe Foster's fabulous new book Amazing Face as a gift for a friend. For the shop some beautiful handmade gift cards from Handmade by Meg.

Who lives at your place?

Me, my 2 children Amelia and Jakob and my mum and dad who we share with.

We LOVE weddings!!

It has been the year of the fairytale wedding. Dresses have been classic and beautiful. Brides have been stunning. We love weddings!!

Our range of dolls have been compared to little flowergirls. They make the perfect gift for christenings or for a little (hopefully well behaved!) flowergirl.

Beautiful rosy cheeks, happy smiles, satin shoes, soft pink details and all the pretty details that make a dress perfect. These dolls are timeless and will be a cherished part of a little girls childhood. 

I'll have three of those!

I once lost my engagement ring. My husband had given it to me only three weeks before hand and I took it off whilst we were eating fish and chips in the park. Silly decision because we left without it. Panic ensued once I realised and I don't know how but it was lying on the grass when we returned. I was being looked after!

I think of this whenever we get multiple orders of products. Often we sell 2 or sometimes 3 of our dolls, squeakers or monkeys. Just in case. The customers are experienced parents or grandparents who know what a disaster it can be when a toy needs a wash or when the loved toy is left at a friends, on a bench or in dad's car. Our toys are beautiful and often have limited quantities manufactured so if you have a special toy that goes everywhere, buy 2 and pop one away. You might be glad you did!

I am glad that we found the ring. Didn't like my chances of having it replaced!
